ADUs & Seniors Webinar Draws Hundreds of Attendees

Casita Coalition was delighted to begin April’s webinar with opening remarks from Pedro Nava, Chair of the Little Hoover Commission, who shared the Commission’s most recent recommendations for how the State should approach the housing crisis, touting ADUs as one of many innovative housing solutions, and an excellent way to increase housing availability for seniors.

We were also excited to welcome new board member Anne Wyatt (Executive Director of Smart Share Housing Solutions) as this month’s moderator, as well as our four presenters: Liliane Choney (Executive Director of ReVisions Resources), Carrie Shores-Diller (Principal Architect of Inspired ADUs, a coalition member), and Bobby Arte and Dr. Kristen Miranda (COO and Chief Medical Officer respectively of The WellNest Company, another Casita member).

Liliane kicked off the presentations with the inspiring story of a couple who built an ADU and a breakdown of their challenges and solutions, as well as basic information for homeowners looking to add an ADU. She was followed by Carrie, whose presentation focused on technology and design, describing the ways in which universal design principles can be applied to ADUs for seniors and people with disabilities. Bobby and Kristin rounded out the presentations with an explanation of The WellNest Company’s approach to creating excellent senior care at home, and how their non-invasive monitoring technology and care partners improve seniors’ experiences of aging in place. A lively, prolonged Q&A with the audience addressed senior-specific as well as general questions about ADUs from homeowners.

The webinar is now available on Casita Coalition’s YouTube channel
